Top Three Flat Panels for Under $200 - Viewsonic VX724

The VX724 does what most monitors twice the price do. This flat panel can be found online for about $165-$180, and it is worth every penny.  The screen itself is a viewable 17 inches, which is sufficient for an entry-level flat panel.  The monitor is a great size with dimensions of 17.2 x 15.3 x 2.4 inches and a weight of only 11 pounds.  The VX724 is also very attractive in the design category.  Although this monitor has a bit smaller screen size than the other monitors in this review, it performs as well, or better, than both of them.

The key numbers on this monitor include a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024, a 4 ms response time, 300 cd/m2 brightness (sufficient for all applications), and 500:1 contrast ratio.  The number that really stands out with this monitor is the 4 ms response time which is extremely fast.  The fast response time of this monitor eliminates ghosting, and provides smooth movement on the screen during movies and video games.

The picture quality is equally impressive with a high resolution screen which produces colors very accurately.  The high contrast ratio also improves the image quality.  You can get even greater image quality by way of the digital inputs integrated into the VX724.  This monitor is also very flexible in regards to compatibility, as it can be used with a PC or a Mac.

It would be very hard to find a better LCD flat panel, right now, than this one for such a low price.  The quality of this monitor is backed up by Viewsonic with their three year limited warranty, which ensures years of worry-free use.  I like this monitor very much as an entry-level choice.

    Conclusion

As you can see, you do not have to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars to get a decent flat panel monitor.  The prices have dropped significantly in recent years, and now the average computer user can get a nice flat panel monitor for an affordable price.  The flat panels in this review are just an example of three very good monitors, available in today's market, for under $200.

I highly recommend all three of the monitors in this review, although there are others in the market which are good as well.  When researching which flat panel is right for you, make sure you know what your primary use for the monitor will be.  Is it going to be for gaming, work, school, or everyday use?  There are monitors out there that are specific to each of these categories.  Also, when searching for a new flat panel, look for monitors with digital inputs, a high maximum resolution, a fast response time, a high contrast ratio, and a good warranty.  There are many choices out there in today's market, so keep these tips in mind to ensure that your next flat panel is the right one for you.
