Samsung SyncMaster 940BW - Testing and Conclusion

To fully test this monitor, I played several games (Unreal tournament, Quake 4, etc) in different resolutions. I also tried a number of regular Windows programs for testing normal usage.

To be honest, I was really surprised at the response time I got. With other LCDs there is a bit of a blur when playing graphically intensive games, but it was NOT so with this monitor.

The monitor boasts its optimum resolution as 1400x900, yet I was unable to get this setting to appear until I installed the drivers disk that came with the monitor.  See, those things are good for something!

At its highest resolution, everything ran smoothly. Games played well, DVD movies were crisp, the monitor performed without a hitch.

Now, time for the pros and cons for this monitor:

    Pros:

    • Bright, clear LCD
    • Small footprint
    • Widescreen
    • Great price ($250 at the time of this writing)
    • Dual inputs, for digital and analog

    Cons:

    • I couldn't find any.

That's right, this monitor is high on features, low on problems, and right on price.  How could you go wrong? I'm giving it a solid 10 out of 10, and Dev Hardware's coveted Platinum award. If you are looking for a new LCD monitor for your machine, this may be just what the doctor ordered.

I'd like to thank the folks at Samsung for sending us the SyncMaster 940BW for testing. If you would like more information about this product, visit their website at http://www.samsung.com/Products/Monitor/LCD_Digital/LS19HAWKBQXAA.asp.
