Monitor Review: Samsung SyncMaster P2450h and the Asus MS238H - Samsung Features and Design
(Page 2 of 4 )
Once in the OSD, you get the standard fare of adjustable settings. If you are not big on adjusting the settings yourself and want to sample some presets, you have seven to choose from. Each preset is basically a different combination of brightness and color temperature that is calibrated to maximize whatever task you are performing with the monitor, such as watching a sporting event, browsing the Internet, editing a Word document, watching a movie, or playing a game. The presets include: Dynamic Contrast, Custom, Movie, Sports, Game, Internet, and Text. If you want to get your hands a bit dirty and do some adjustments on the fly, you can tweak brightness, contrast, sharpness, color tone, and the red, green, and blue values individually.
Once again, Samsung has managed to produce an attractive design with the P2450h. The monitor has a thin black bezel on all sides. The bezel finishes off on the edges with a transparent material that includes a slight red tinge to add some modern flare. This design is used with many of Samsung's other monitors and televisions, and it looks terrific. The monitor has a very clean look thanks to its jagged, square edges.
The back is also devoid of much clutter. The monitor rests on a glossy black oval stand that keeps it relatively steady during sudden movements. Unfortunately, ergonomic options are limited. You can only tilt the monitor back 15 degrees. If you want to swivel or pivot it, you are out of luck.
Connectivity options include an HDMI, a VGA, and a DVI port. While the options are solid, their location is not. They sit on the back panel in a slightly hidden and cramped manner. This was done to make the monitor more streamlined, but it can be a pain when you are disconnecting or reconnecting cables.
While the Samsung SyncMaster P2450h looks great on the surface with its design, there are better options out there. The performance in terms of color accuracy and black levels is just not up to snuff. If you are not extremely picky about your picture, however, it may suffice as a larger monitor for your general needs.
