The design of the LG 47SL80 is quite attractive and should complement any room it is put into. The bezel is quite thin. The set features a single layer design showcased by edge-to-edge glass, giving it a streamlined look, especially when viewed from the sides. The panel is also quite thin, measuring just 1.8 inches thick sans the stand. The wide, rectangular stand is sturdy and is connected to the set via a stainless steel neck that allows for swiveling. The remote that accompanies the 47SL80 is the standard fare, and is backlit.
Connectivity on the 47SL80 is plentiful. A side panel houses a HDMI port, an AV input with composite video, and a USB port for data transfer. The back panel houses three HDMI ports, another AV input with composite video, two component-video inputs, a RGB input for PC connections, a RF input to connect your cable box or antenna, and a RS-232 port.
An extra audio option exists in the form of an optical digital audio output. The connectivity options on the 47SL80 gives its users plenty of flexibility with their home entertainment centers, as one can hook up various HD sources to the multiple HDMI ports, such as gaming systems or Blu-ray players. The PC input also offers some flexibility to those who like to use their PCs with larger displays.
While the LG 47SL80 is not perfect, it is a quality television. The design is excellent in terms of looks and ergonomics, and so are its picture settings. You also get plenty of mix and match options thanks to its connectivity.
Some might argue that the 47SL80 is a case of style over substance, but that would be an exaggeration. It may lack interactive features and some performance, but not enough so that it would not be worthy of a recommendation, as the LG 47SL80 would be a solid addition to anyone's entertainment center.
