HP W2207 LCD Monitor - Design and Cosmetics

HP hasn't held back in the style department with the w2207.  The screen itself is very attractive and has been described as having the finish of a black grand piano.  This makes the border of the screen look awesome, but it also does attract a lot of fingerprints that would need to be wiped off. The viewable screen measures 22 inches diagonally, and the overall dimensions of the flat panel are 20.6 x 11.4 x 18.9 inches. It weighs a respectable 19.8 pounds.

The monitor doesn't take up much space on the desktop. It has a nice feature which helps you keep the desktop tidy by stowing the keyboard in a spot underneath the screen when it is not in use.  It is these kind of little details that separate a good monitor from a great monitor.

The base of the monitor is rectangular, and provides good support for the screen.  The base does not allow the user to turn the screen either way, but it does allow the user to move the screen up, down, forward, and backward. The base and the arm are solidly built; they move smoothly when adjusting the screen position. As I mentioned earlier, the screen can be turned 90 degrees to portrait mode. This "tall" way of viewing the screen is nice when viewing web pages which are long, because the user can view more of the page at once instead of having to scroll down all the time.

The screen also includes a nice bevel feature which allows for easy attachment of a web cam, as well as other clip-on accessories.

The wire connections can be found on the back of the screen hidden away from sight. Here you can also find two USB ports; it's always nice to have these to connect various USB peripherals. The back of the flat panel is also where you will find two integrated speakers. I think that this is a bit of a design flaw, because the speakers are pointing away from the user which makes it hard to hear unless the volume is turned way up. I guess HP decided to go for looks over function in this case by not placing the speakers at the front of the flat panel, and opting for the sleek look of the front of the screen instead. There is no doubt that the style and look of this monitor is second to none, but that seems to hurt the performance of the sound in this case.
