Dell UltraSharp U2711 and the Samsung SyncMaster F2380 - Samsung SyncMaster F2380 monitor
(Page 3 of 4 )
The Samsung SyncMaster F2380 is a 23-inch monitor that has its pluses and minuses. On the plus side is its excellent design and good overall performance. On the minus side is its unimpressive connectivity options and low brightness. The SyncMaster F2380 is available for around $330. It comes with a nice three-year warranty on parts and labor as well as support online or via its 24-7 toll-free phone line.
The SyncMaster F2380ís 23-inch display has a 16:9 aspect ratio and an HD resolution of 1,920x1,080. Its performance is solid for the most part, and is highlighted by very wide viewing angles that let you still get an accurate picture even if you are not situated directly in from of the display.
The monitor has a high contrast ratio that gives it some very deep black levels, making it a viable choice when you want to view movies. Color is accurate on the F2380 as well.
The main problem with the monitorís performance is that it has a low brightness level. This is mostly apparent when playing some video games or viewing colorful websites. The low brightness also tends to dull the F2380ís accurate color at times.
Picture adjustments on the SyncMaster F2380 are satisfactory. The intuitive on-screen display, or OSD, is accessed via controls located in the middle of the displayís bottom panel. For those who donít want to immerse themselves into too many technicalities of picture tweaking, there are seven picture presets on board. The presets are simply different combinations of brightness and color temperatures used to maximize the picture for whatever you may be using the computer for at that time, such as web surfing or movie watching.
The presets include Movie, Game, Internet, Sport, Text, Dynamic Contrast, and Custom. Beyond the presets, you can adjust standard settings such as brightness, contrast, and sharpness. The displayís color tone can also be set to one of four presets, including Warm, Normal, Cool, or Custom. In the Custom preset, you can individually tweak the pictureís red, green, and blue levels.
