BenQ V2400W LCD Monitor Review - Features

As far as controls go, what the BenQ V2400W has to offer is pretty standard. However, the control buttons are presented in a very unique way that actually adds some ease of use to the monitor. All of the buttons are displayed prominently on the front of the monitor, on the bottom-left of the display. Continuing with its sense of flair, the V2400W’s buttons are not actual physical buttons. Rather, they are touch sensitive, a feature which is often implemented in a way that causes a great deal of annoyance for consumers. However, in this case, the implementation is not bad at all. When you press the buttons, although there is no physical feedback, there is a light that flashes as well as an optional “successful push” sound.

The V2400W offers all of the video inputs that are standard on today’s modern monitors: DVI, VGA, and HDMI. Interestingly, the only cable that is included in the box with the monitor is the VGA cable. I suppose that this is reasonable, as almost all users exclusively use VGA, and it does slightly cut the costs for most consumers. In addition, the monitor also sports an audio output for headphones and the like.

Unfortunately, the headphone jack is hidden near the back on the side of the monitor in a recessed area. Although this does mean that the jack does not detract from the appearance of the monitor, it also means that it is very difficult to plug in your headphones without either getting out of your chair or rotating your whole monitor (thanks to the lack of flexibility in the stand).

Resolution on the V2400W is the standard for 24” monitors: 1,920 x 1,200 pixels. Although this will not gain any points from technophiles, there is really no need for a higher resolution than that. Although some may complain, the rest of the consumer market will just shake their collective head and wonder why anyone would want a resolution that makes your desktop icons look like little square ants.

Although it is an aspect of the design, I consider the cable management clip to be an additional feature added by the V2400W. The clip does detract from the design, but it does an admirable job of managing your cables. For the minor hit in appearance the unit may take from the addition of a clip, not having an untidy clutter of cables around your monitor is a fair exchange.
