Top Five DSLR Cameras for 2008 - Sony Alpha DSLR-A350
(Page 4 of 5 )
Just released to retail stores, the Sony Alpha DSLR-A350 offers 14.2-megapixels of resolution, an ultra-quick AF motor, a new Live View mode, Super SteadyShot image stabilization, and an Anti-dust feature that shakes dust off of the CCD each time the camera is shut off. The A350 should give the Canon EOS 450D a run for its money, as both these cameras are similarly priced at $799 for the body, and $899 with the lens kit. The lens kit for the A350 features an 18-70 mm lens.

The size and weight (about 1.5 lbs. with the battery) of this DSLR are ideal for comfortable shooting. The 2.7-inch LCD features an anti-glare coating that makes it easy to see in the sun. It also will tilt up and down for better viewing when shooting low, or overhead, shots.

The A350 features a new Live View system that is much quicker and more accurate than other camera's Live View Modes. Another new feature is the Smart Teleconverter zoom button. This button only works in Live View mode. It essentially turns the 70 mm lens into a 200 mm lens by cropping into the image and decreasing the amount of megapixels from 14.2 to 7.7 to 3.5 at its highest zoom level. This feature can be very useful for zooming in close, while still maintaining the picture quality.
Overall, the Sony Alpha DSLR-A350 is an easy-to-use DSLR with great features not offered by its competitors, and it comes with a price tag that is very fair. The only potential downfall of this camera is its relatively slow 2.5 fps shooting speed in burst mode. Other than that, this is a great camera that should be very popular in 2008.
