Top 4 Compact Digital Cameras from PMA 2008 - Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5
(Page 4 of 5 )
The DMC-TZ5 improves upon last year's TZ3 in a few different ways; it may be one of the top compacts of the year. This one features a 9.1 MP sensor, an improved Venus IV processor, 10x optical zoom, 28mm wide-angle lens, 3-inch LCD display with amazingly-good resolution, and HD-recording capabilities. The TZ5 will be available in blue, black, or silver.

The built-in features of this Panasonic are very refined. The HD-recording feature will record video in 720p HD-quality resolution. And you can use the optical zoom while recording, unlike the Panasonic FX35. This compact shooter will zoom in 10x at full resolution and will even zoom in 16.9x at a lower resolution of 3 MP. This is a very nice feature.

Of course, this camera features all of the typical functions, such as face detection (up to 15 people), optical image stabilization (essential with high-zoom cameras), and intelligent exposure (automatic compensation). There really isn't anything bad that I can say about this camera – of course, further testing will probably show some flaws, but my first impressions of this camera are very good. The only minor flaw that this camera may have is that it weighs slightly more than other cameras in its class.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 was expected to be available in March at an initial price of about $350 – great deal!
