Top 4 Compact Digital Cameras from PMA 2008 - Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T300
(Page 3 of 5 )
Sony has loaded the T-300 with some new, advanced features that aren't available in other cameras. The T300, like its predecessors, is an ultra-thin compact camera with a large 3.5-inch LCD display. This isn't just any old display, though. It's a touch-screen, which is becoming increasingly standard in Sony compacts. The T300 sports 10.1 MP of resolution, 5x optical zoom, and a Carl Zeiss lens.

The touch-screen display is a double-edged sword. It's a nice feature to have, because it allows for a larger display and fewer buttons littered across the body of the camera. The downfall of having the touch-screen display is that it leaves fingerprints on your screen. But if you don't mind wiping off the screen more often than usual, than this minor gripe shouldn't bother you.

Sony has implemented their iSCN automatic scene selection mode in this camera, which essentially makes it very easy to operate. This feature will quickly and automatically take a second shot if your first shot was not at optimal settings (white balance, exposure, ISO, etc.).

Another advanced feature in the T300 is the child/adult priority setting. This feature will allow the user to select whether they want to make the adult or the child the priority in the shot and the camera will then automatically take the photo once the priority subject smiles. This technology sounds cool, but I can already see some potential bugs here. We'll just have to wait and see with further testing.
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T300 should be available starting sometime in March, with a starting price around $400. Perhaps that's a little steep.
