Top 4 Compact Digital Cameras from PMA 2008 - Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX35
(Page 2 of 5 )
The Panasonic DMC-FX35 is a pretty straightforward camera as far as looks are concerned. This little shooter is nothing special at first glance, but then again, beauty is not always skin deep – and that's the case here. Hidden inside the FX35's little body is a 10.1 MP sensor, a nice wide-angle 25 mm lens, 4x optical zoom capabilities, and HD video recording capabilities.

Panasonic's new compacts for 2008 will feature a minimum of 30mm wide-angle lenses. And the FX35 is the cream of the crop with an impressive 25mm. This will allow the user to take much wider shots than most other compacts will take. It will also make it easier to squeeze more people into group shots.

Also impressive is the HD-recording capabilities of the FX35. This is one of the smallest digital cameras ever produced that is able to record video in 720p quality. There are a couple of downfalls to this functionality though. You must purchase an additional component cable in order to output the HD-video from the camera to your HDTV. Also, the FX35 can't use its 4x optical zoom feature while recording video, which is the case for many digital cameras these days, but isn't it about time for digital camera manufacturers to start implementing this functionality into their compact cameras?

Despite the minor gripes that I have with the HD-video feature, the fact is that at least it does record in HD, so I shouldn't complain too much about it. Overall, this is a sleek little camera with excellent features that should make it a popular choice for consumers in 2008. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX35 was expected to be available starting in March with a price tag somewhere around $350 – not bad.
