The Canon EOS Rebel XSi Camera - Shooting and Viewing
(Page 2 of 4 )

The Canon EOS Rebel XSi comes loaded with several shooting modes which are separated into two groups: the Basic Zone and the Creative Zone. The Basic Zone modes are composed of auto exposure and scene preset options. The presets include Auto Exposure, Portrait, Landscape, Macro, Sports, Night Scene, and Flash Suppressed. The Creative Zone modes contain the usual user controlled exposure options as well as a few extras. These modes include Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, Manual, and Auto Depth of Field.
When it comes to looking over the photographs you have taken on the Canon EOS Rebel XSi, the playback options are pretty vanilla but similar to other DSLRs. One time-saving feature is an orientation sensor that will properly place all of your photos in the correct orientation when you view them, so you do not have to shift your screen constantly to get the correct angles. You can scroll through your photos on the XSi either 10 or 100 photos at a time by using the control dial.
As stated in the introduction, the Canon EOS Rebel XSi's looks are one area where it is lacking. Although for many the looks of a camera are not its important aspect, when paying around $900 for a product you expect it to look the part. The XSi is an entry level DSLR, but that still is no excuse for its seemingly cheap looks.
The Rebel XSi comes in two different color packages, all black or a two-toned silver and black. Each color version comes in a body-only or single-lens kit. The Rebel XSi weighs in at 1 pound 2.5 ounces. The camera's design would not lead you to believe that it is rugged and can handle a lot of usage. The XSi has a plastic-like outer shell that feels and looks cheap. It also has a rather narrow grip, which makes it uncomfortable to hold and use over long periods of time.
The buttons on the Rebel XSi are glossy and have a slippery feel to them. Each button does feel different however, allowing you to distinguish them over time without having to look. The build quality of the XSi or lack thereof puts Canon behind the pack of its other competitors such as Nikon and Olympus, which is surprising considering Canon is such a widespread and well know brand name. One would definitely come to expect more from Canon in this aspect.
