Sony Cybershot DSC-T2 Compact Digital Camera - Design

    Design

The design of the Sony Cybershot DSC-T2 is very much like other T-series cameras from Sony. The body is boxy, yet compact enough to be considered a pocket camera. The overall dimensions of the T2 are 3.5 inches wide by 2.5 inches tall by 0.8 inches thick, and the device weighs in at about 5.4 ounces. Some might say that this camera is a bit chunky because of its thickness, but it is still a very compact camera.

The body is made of the same type of metallic material as other T-series Sony cameras, and comes in either black, blue, green, white, or pink. The thing that impresses me the most about the body of this camera is the minimal external controls. The T2's functions are controlled using the touch-screen display.

The T2's display is a 2.7 inch widescreen touch panel LCD, which can be operated either by using a finger or by using the included stylus. The screen is a bit small for a touch-screen, and at times it can be difficult to see the icons on it when there are similar colors in the background (the icons overlay the background on the screen). The touch-screen interface is a good feature to have, though, because it helps to eliminate many of the buttons and controls on the body of the camera that can give it a cluttered look.

The uncluttered look of the Sony DSC-T2 is great. The top of this camera sports the power and shutter buttons. The rear of the camera offers the zoom controls on the right side of the display, and a scrap book button on the other side of the display. Looking at the back of the T2, you can't help but notice that Sony could have made the display a little bit larger - maybe 3 inches instead of 2.7. When Sony took most of the controls off the body of the camera, it freed up some extra real estate that could have been used to increase the screen size. Sony managed to squeeze a 3.5 inch screen on the Sony DSC-T200, so I don't know why they couldn't do that with the T2.
