Sony Cybershot DSC-H3 Super Zoom Camera - Design

As I have already mentioned, the Sony H3 is a relatively small camera. This camera's dimensions are 4.2 x 1.9 x 2.6 inches, and it weighs in at 13.4 ounces with the battery and memory stick installed. It is small enough to fit in a purse or bag without weighing you down too much.

The H3 is the smallest camera to ever be equipped with the very popular Carl Zeiss 10x optical lens. The Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens on the H3 is a professional quality lens which gives the user not only 10x optical zoom, but an additional 20x digital zoom. I'm not a big fan of using lots of digital zoom in a shot, but it can come in handy in certain situations. This lens is 38-380 mm equivalent f/3.5-4.4, so you can get nice wide-angled shots with this camera.

The body of this camera is pretty well designed, although space is at a premium, so some people may find the controls are a little too cramped. It really just depends on your hand size, which is normally the case for any digital camera. Overall though, the H3 is a very comfortable and stable camera to hold and to shoot with. The body of the H3 comes in either a black or silver finish.

The rear of the camera hosts the 2.5 inch LCD screen, which is relatively small. I would have liked to see a larger LCD screen on this camera, especially since an optical viewfinder is absent on the H3. Although the LCD display is small, it is still good quality featuring 115,000 pixels, and it is easy to view in dim or bright conditions. Next to the display, you can find the zoom controls, menu button, home button, and a rocker switch. The button configuration is pretty easy to get used to, and is similar to other Sony Cybershot models.

On top of the H3 you will find the mode dial, power button, shutter button, and the built-in flash. The mode dial will allow the user to easily switch from the different settings, such as scene modes, auto-focus mode, manual mode, or video. The flash on top of the camera is good. It is effective up to 23 feet. There is an included lens hood with the purchase of the H3, and when it is installed, it blocks the flash, making it useless. That shouldn't be a big deal though, because you typically use a lens hood to block sunlight anyway, so you wouldn't need flash in that situation.

Included with your purchase of the Sony Cybershot DSC-H3 you will get the following:

    • Rechargeable Battery

    • NP-BG1 Battery Charger

    • BC-CSG/CSGB/CSGC Multi Connector Cable USB, AV

    • Power Cord

    • Shoulder strap

    • Lens Cap

    • Lens Cap Strap

    • Lens Hood

    • Lens Adapter Ring(for installing aftermarket lenses)

    • CD-ROM Software

It must be noted that the H3 does not come with a Sony memory stick. This camera does have 31 MB of built-in memory, but that is not enough for normal use. You will need to purchase Sony's memory stick PRO DUO, high speed PRO DUO, or PRO HG DUO memory stick in order to have sufficient memory for photos and videos.
