Sony Cybershot DSC-W80 Review - Performance and Image Quality
(Page 4 of 4 )
The performance of the W80 is great; it is definitely better than its predecessors, the W35 and the W55. The reason for this is the new Bionz processor which I described earlier. This processor has helped the W80 reach shot-to-shot times of only 1.2 seconds, which is much better than its predecessors. This shot-to-shot time is also better than the W80's competition, even the ultra-fast Canon SD800 which has a shot-to-shot time of 1.3 seconds. The W80 excels even more when you look at the continuous shooting speeds. Typical continuous shooting speeds with the W80 are about 2.7 frames per second, which is far better than the competition. So needless to say, the performance of the W80 shines with its speedy delivery and fast processing speeds.
The lithium-ion, rechargeable battery performs just as well as the shot performance. The W80 manages to get about 340 shots before needing a charge. This number is among the best in its class. The overall performance of the W80 is tough to beat, and I'm very impressed with it.
Image quality in the W80 is also exceptional. This camera produces accurate images with vivid colors, and the automatic white balance works well. The images appear mostly noise-free up to ISO 800 levels, which is pretty good. Many cameras in the W80's class only produce good quality, noise-free images up to ISO 400. The automatic settings on this camera, such as the face detection, seem to work well at getting the best possible image in any type of lighting conditions. The 7.2 megapixel sensor ensures that you'll be able to produce 8 x 10 inch prints or larger without having to worry about the image quality diminishing.

Summary
The Sony Cybershot DSC-W80 is one of the best point-and-shoot digital cameras on the market today. There aren't any major bad points to this camera; it is pretty much solid all-around. With great features, a 7.2 megapixel sensor, great image quality, and exceptional performance, I could see this camera becoming one of the top three point-and-shoot cameras on the market today.
I would recommend this camera to anyone looking for a simple and effective point-and-shoot digital camera. I would rate this camera right up there with the Canon SD800 and SD850 in terms of quality and performance. At $249, it's a steal, and I'm sure that most anyone will be happy with the performance of their W80.
