Pentax K200D Camera Review
If you've just decided that you want to invest in a good, basic digital camera that goes beyond point-and-shoot and offers mega pixels to spare, you're in luck. Pentax has upped the ante in its bid to compete in the mass consumer DSLR market with the introduction of its K200D camera. Keep reading to see what this powerful camera can give you.

The Pentax K200D is an entry level 10.2 mega pixel camera that comes onto the market just in time for the manufacturer, as its previous 6 mega pixel K100D was beginning to lose ground versus other competitors' entry level offerings. The new Pentax K200D camera comes with a larger LCD and improved, rugged construction that is both water and dust resistant.
The K200D also comes equipped with a solid 11 point auto focus system that performs impressively, considering it is just an entry level camera. The Pentax K200D sells for as low as $529.99, comes with a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II lens (and can handle any Pentax K mount lens as well), and is a good bargain for new photographers shopping the entry level DSLR market. The K200D's solid performance and affordable price should help it in its quest to be competitive in the entry level DSLR market versus better known manufacturers like Nikon and Canon.
Those looking for an aesthetically stylish camera may not give the Pentax K200D a second look. The K200D for the most part copies its previously released K100D's design. While this may be too vanilla for those who buy things based on looks, many will argue that a camera's looks are not as important as the quality of pictures it produces. The K200D comes in black and has a simple yet classy design. It weighs in at 1.5 pounds and is at least half a pound heavier than its other entry level DSLR competitors from Canon and Nikon.
Shooters looking for a lighter, smaller DSLR will probably find a problem with the K200D's heaviness, although it does have a very comfortable grip. It is slightly bigger in terms of depth, width, and weight than the older K100D. The Pentax K200D, while heavy, definitely beats the competition when it comes to ruggedness. It has a protective plastic body that encases a metal frame. The camera simply feels as if it could handle more use and abuse than others in its class. It comes equipped with weather and dust sealing.
