    Panasonic DMC-FX500 Camera - Design

The Panasonic DMC-FX500 camera is little different from other digicams when it comes to the physical design factor. It is shaped like a box, with a lens that sticks out. The camera, however, has a solid quality build to it. For example, the power feature is a switch instead of a button. The engineers designed this feature so that it would be easier for you operate. The camera also comes with a port cover. Instead of being made out of plastic, this port cover is a metal door that sits on an actual hinge, which closes or opens. The hinge rotates on a small metal rod.

The touch screen is located on the back of the Panasonic DMC-FX500. It comes with a stylus. The stylus consists of a plastic oval with a point on one end (as most styluses are designed).

The Panasonic DMC-FX500 has controls that are located on the back of the device. You’ll find them on the right side of the LCD. At the top is the Mode button, and right underneath it is the Display button, which takes you through the LCD display modes. Since there are no down, right, or left arrow keys, you will use the joystick to move in these directions or in the center (push). Below the joystick is the Quick Menu button. You use these last functions to navigate through the levels of menus in the Record mode.

The Panasonic DMC-FX500 comes equipped with the following items: battery charger, battery pack, battery carrying case, stylus, AV cable, USB cable, strap, software CD-ROM, and manuals. You’ll probably want to get more accessories for your camera. If you’re into shooting, you’ll want to get a large capacity SD or SDHC memory card. If you travel or spend a lot of time outside, you should definitely look into purchasing a camera case. Panasonic sells the DMW-CHTZ3 model for approximately $16.95.

You can also purchase a DMW-HDC2 component cable to connect the Panasonic DMC-FX500 to your HDTV’s component inputs, which consist of two audio RCS connectors and three video RCA connectors. You have two options when it comes to HDTV playback: 848 x 480 or 1,280 x 720. For a photo player, you can get the DMV-SDP1 HDTV Photo Player. This comes with a remote control.

The Panasonic DMC-FX500 uses a 3.6 volt, 1,000 mA lithium-ion battery. Panasonic says that this battery can deliver up to 280 shots. You don’t have to worry about charging your Panasonic DMC-FX500 with a cable. Instead, you charge the battery by sliding it into the compact charger that has folding prongs, which plug into the wall. The camera has a built-in 50MB memory capacity. You can also use the following memory flash cards: SD, MMC, or SDHC. It also has a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connectivity port that will allow you to transfer data to your computer.
