Panasonic D-Snap SV-AV50 Camera Review - Samples and Conclusion

    Videos:

    Pros/Cons:

    Pros:

    • Small, lightweight, ergonomic
    • Easy to use
    • Virtually unlimited media size capability
    • Metal case

    Cons:

    • Not enough features for good quality still and video image recording
    • Battery gets too hot
    • Battery life not sufficient for extensive use
    • Poor video quality
    • Inconvenient design of the A/V input/output
    • Lack of optical zoom
    • Insufficient media size included

    Bottom line:

If you are looking for a do-it-all gadget that is going to turn some heads and have your friends wondering what that little thing really does, go ahead and spend your well-earned money on the D-Snap SV-AV50. Otherwise, if you are looking for a camera with a good picture quality, while still maintaining the size and durability of a well-built unit, look elsewhere.

Panasonic definitely missed the ball with this one; I would say this camera is good enough for two things: taking full-resolution pictures in a well-lit outdoor environment and using it as an MP3 player, since having a remote control while playing music is expected out of an audio player these days anyway. The video quality is just as good as you would take with a video cell phone. It would be a nice thing to use it to transfer some of your movies to an SD format, but the cost of a large size flash card makes it impractical to say the least, I wouldn't want to spend a 100 bucks on a piece of blank media for my movies. Let's hope that this is just the beginning of the new era of pocket video-recording devices and the best is yet to come.
