Nikon Coolpix S200 Review - Design

It seems that Nikon has spent some time in the design department with the S200, and they have done a good job with it.  The body of the S200 is a new design made of brushed aluminum, which should hold up well over time.  Besides being durable, the S200's body is very small measuring in at 3.6 x 0.7 x 2.2 inches.  This ultra-thin design helps the S200 tip the scales at only about 4.5 ounces.  As I mentioned, the size makes it an ideal pocket camera.

The lens of this Nikon is a 38 mm-114 mm equivalent Nikkor lens, which is sufficient for the purpose of this camera.  This lens will not take very good wide-angled shots, but it will do well for your average point-and-shoot shots.  Next to the lens, you will find the built-in flash which has an effective range of 2-17.7 feet.

The back of the camera is where you will find most of the controls. It is a pretty basic set-up.  Most of the rear panel sports the 2.5 inch LCD display, which boasts 153,000 pixels.  I would have liked to see a three-inch display on the S200, because it seems like there is room for it even though this camera is so tiny.

To the right of the LCD display, you will find all of the controls on the S200.  There is a two-way switch that operates the zoom controls.  Below the zoom controls, you will find the mode, play, menu, and trash buttons.  There is also a five-way rocker switch which helps navigate the menu system.  The buttons are relatively small, but that is to be expected on such a small camera.

Overall, I would say that the S200's design is simple, yet stylish design.  This camera is really attractive in its appearance, and its small size is ideal for a pocket camera.  Its controls are laid out in a very simple fashion, so it should not take long for someone to get the hang of the controls.  In my opinion, the looks and size of the S200 are its best assets, and that alone should help the sales of this camera.
