Nikon CoolPix P80 Camera - Taking Control
(Page 4 of 4 )
The P80 offers its users full manual controls in addition to the automatic and scene shooting options. There are eight different shooting modes on the Nikon CoolPix P80. They are: auto, program, shutter priority, aperture priority, manual, scene, and sport continuous for faster shooting. Automatic in-camera red eye fix is a feature that will look for instances of red eye in your photos and fix them automatically; it is a great time saver.
The D-lighting feature takes naturally dark photos and automatically adjusts the darker areas to make them more visible and able to be printed if you choose to apply it. You can also have success with taking photos in environments with little light thanks to auto adjusts up to ISO 6400.
Face Priority AF is yet another great feature on the CoolPix P80 that can automatically focus on faces, up to 12 of them, in a group picture. Optical vibration image stabilization is a feature that the camera uses to compensate for any vibrations or shaking while shooting in order to reduce blur in photos as much as possible. The CoolPix P80 has 50MB of internal memory and can also accept SD/SDHC memory media.

In terms of performance, the Nikon CoolPix P80 is satisfactory. The shutter lag is good. The flash feature works well in bad lighting and does a good job of producing accurate colors without distortion due to lighting, although the recycle times for the flash are average at best. One knock against the P80's performance is that the auto focus acquisition times tend to be a bit slow. The P80's rechargeable ion lithium battery is serviceable for about 250 shots and it takes about two hours to fully charge.
Image quality on the CoolPix P80 was very good. Even the default images taken are accurate in color and sharp. The various automatic shooting modes allow even novices to take high quality photos.
Those looking for a quality ultra zoom lens should give the Nikon CoolPix P80 a look. The camera produces high quality images, is nice and compact in size, and also has the Nikon name you can depend on. The powerful 18x zoom alone is a feature that should make anyone in the market for a DSLR give the Nikon CoolPix P80 a chance.
