    Fujifilm Finepix S1000fd - Conclusion

Overall, I was impressed by the Fujifilm Finepix S1000fd. This camera is a good all-around shooter that takes great portraits, landscape shots, and has a good feature set. Some of the key features that people will enjoy with the S1000fd is the face detection technology, which will recognize up to six faces within the frame, the panorama feature which makes taking panoramic shots easy (with a tripod), and the auto-bracketing feature which will take three quick photos at different exposures – perfect for HDR photos.

This camera is comfortable to hold and carry, and it's much easier to carry around than a typical DSLR camera. All of the controls of the S1000fd are easily accessible, and the internal menu system is easy to navigate. I like everything about the design of this camera. From the lens to the 2.7-inch LCD display, Fujifilm has a winner with this design.

This camera's versatility is also impressive, as it's basically a mix between a point-and-shoot and a DSLR camera. The S1000fd will take photos that are DSLR-quality in a lot of cases, but its low-light shooting capabilities fall short of the more expensive DSLR cameras. This camera does not have an optical image stabilization system, which is a bit disappointing. To make up for this downfall, Fujifilm uses a system that increases ISO levels to compensate for camera-shake. This system works well in most cases, but it will wreak havoc on your photos in low light because of the camera's already poor low-light performance.

So who is this camera for? Well, it's for someone who is looking for a camera that is a step-up from the many point-and-shoot digital cameras on the market right now. One of the most impressive aspects of the Fujifilm S1000fd is that it costs much less than many of its point-and-shoot counterparts on the market. For about $230, this camera is a steal! It will take better photos than the majority of point-and-shoot cameras on the market, and also sports better resolution and overall speed than these same competitors. On top of that, this camera is currently the smallest 12x optical zoom camera in the world – you can't beat that.

Yes, it does have a few shortcomings, but all things considered (price, resolution, zoom, size, etc...), the Fujifilm S1000fd is truly a winner. I know I'm happy with mine, so I have no problem recommending it to anyone looking to upgrade from a point-and-shoot who is not quite ready for a DSLR camera.
