Performance and Image Quality
As I mentioned at the start of this review, the performance and image quality of this camera are not the greatest. But it holds its own in some cases. Let's take a look at what some of the experts have said about the Fujifilm 8000fd's performance and image quality.

CNet.com
CNet didn't like the performance of the 8000fd very much, saying that the shutter lag was "sluggish" and the 8000fd was "far from a speed demon." Their tests showed a start-up time of 3.1 seconds, a shot-to-shot time of 2.6 seconds (flash off), and a shutter lag of 0.8 seconds in good lighting and 2 seconds in bad lighting. These numbers were enough to put the 8000fd near the bottom of the pack in terms of performance.
CNet thought the image quality of the 8000fd was okay They said, "While colors look accurate and the camera's automatic white balance does a fine job of serving up neutral colors in all sorts of lighting conditions, images are not as sharp as we would have liked." They don't recommend shooting above ISO 1600 because of very noticeable image noise issues.
CNet rating: 6.6 out of 10
Camera Labs.com
Camera Labs performed their tests of the Fujifilm 8000fd and compared the results to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18. They found that while the 8000fd produces decent image quality, overall, it's not better than the Panasonic. Here's what they had to say about some of the comparison shots between the two cameras: "...the Panasonic FZ18 enjoys a slightly clearer result with less fringing."
They did love the 8000fd's macro mode, which takes close-up shots within 1 cm. They found that this camera produced lots of good detail in most shots, but that it also produced a lot of purple fringing when cropped into a shot. Overall, they liked the results of their test shots with the Fujifilm 8000fd, but they thought that its competitors would probably be a better value.

Camera Labs rating: 78 % out of 100%--earned the "recommended" award.
DP Review
DP Review called the image quality of the 8000fd a "mixed bag." They said that if you're planning on using this camera for 5 x 7 prints or smaller, then you'll probably be very happy with the camera. For more advanced photo enthusiasts, who like to do a lot of editing and who produce larger prints, they don't recommend this camera.

They pointed out a lot of purple fringing in shots taken throughout the zoom range, and they emphasized the addition of some chromatic abberations at the longer end. They agreed with Camera Labs.com that the Macro Mode works great at taking close-up shots with good detail. Also on the plus side, they said that the image distortion is "remarkably low" in shots taken with the 8000fd.
DP Review ratings: overall value: 8.5 out of 10--earned the "recommend" award.
