Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd Super Zoom - Features
(Page 3 of 4 )
Features
Face Detection Technology
The FinePix 8000fd does offer face detection technology, which can be very useful in some situations. The 8000fd's face detection allows for tracking up to 10 faces at any one time, and this feature will work very well for group photos. The only downfall of this technology is that the subject(s) in the photo must be looking at the camera, otherwise the camera will not recognize the face and thus, will not adjust optimal settings for the shot.
Image Stabilization
An image stabilization system is essential to have in any camera that has long-range zoom capabilities. The reason for this is that the amount of camera-shake experienced at full zoom makes the shot almost impossible to get without it being a total blur. Fujifilm has used an image stabilization system that is less common in other cameras, which usually use optical image stabilization systems. The 8000fd's image stabilization system is not optical; instead, its sensor will move to compensate for camera-shake. This system works really well for this camera, and it actually helps make the 18x optical zoom usable.
This feature works by first pressing the image stabilization button on top of the camera. Then, you press the shutter half way until the camera steadies the shot. You then push the shutter button all the way down when the shot looks good. This is a very effective feature.
Movie Mode
The 8000fd features a video mode that captures videos in 640 x 480 pixel (VGA quality), 30 fps clips. With this camera at VGA quality setting, you can expect about 15 minutes of video footage for every 1 GB of memory on the memory card. For example, you can get approximately 1 hour of footage on a 4 GB memory card.
The video quality is excellent with this camera. In movie mode, you cannot take advantage of the 18x optical zoom, but the image stabilization system is still functional. To see an example of how smooth the video is when using the 8000fd, check out this short video clip at DP Review.
