Five of the Best Ultracompact Digital Cameras on the Market for 2007 - Canon PowerShot SD1000
(Page 2 of 6 )
Canon PowerShot SD1000 (est. $200)
This Canon model was released in early 2007 as a replacement for the Canon SD600. The SD1000 offers some great improvements over the SD600. The most notable improvement was the upgraded Digic III processor which Canon claims improves the speed and battery life of the camera.
Tests have proven this to be true. This new for 2007 processor has made the SD1000 one of the fastest performing cameras in its class.

The device seems to be a no-nonsense type of camera. The SD1000 does not have a lot of manual controls, so it performs most of its features automatically
such as white balance, focus, and even face detection. This makes this camera extremely easy to use.
The SD1000 is one of the lightest cameras out of my five choices, weighing in at just 4.4 ounces. The overall dimensions of the SD1000 are 3.4 x 0.7 x 2.1 inches. The SD1000 comes in an attractive all silver finish, or you can opt for a silver and black finish which is reminiscent of the original digital ELPH cameras by Canon from 10 years ago. The LCD is a good size at 2.5 inches, and this camera also sports an optical viewfinder which is always good to have.
The image quality of the SD1000 is extremely good. The 7.1 mega-pixels of resolution allows for greater than 8 x 10 prints. Photos are extremely colorful and crystal clear. This camera is capable of shooting at ISO levels of 1600, although photos are a bit noisy at this level. It is recommended that you keep the ISO level below 800 with this camera.
