Casio Exilim EX-S880 YouTube Digital Camera - Features

    Features

I want to start off by talking about the YouTube feature in the S880 since that is its claim to fame. There is a YouTube dedicated record button on the back of the camera, which is used when recording video for YouTube. The S880 will then record video in MPEG4-H.264 format, which is ideal for YouTube. To use the feature, you record some video, and then you would need to put the camera in its docking station and connect to the computer.  You would then boot up the included YouTube software and enter in the video's information, much as you do on the actual YouTube website. After all the information is entered, the software takes care of the rest.

In my opinion, the YouTube feature seems pretty worthless, unless you put a lot of videos on YouTube. It doesn't really save you time, because you input the same information into the software as you would on the actual YouTube website. It's nice that Casio has made the video format ideal for YouTube, but the video is still not up to the level of quality you can achieve with a digital video camera, or even some other digital cameras. I give this feature a thumbs down, because as I mentioned earlier, it seems that Casio is trying to sell the S880 based on marketing alone and not the functionality of the camera.

The S880 also houses a dedicated data storage button, which is used to
store media on the SD card. This feature is easy to use, and will allow you to store most kinds of files on the SD card. This data feature is not new to digital cameras, as most digital cameras with SD memory cards are capable of storing different kinds of media on them.

There are some nice in-camera features in the S880. Casio has put a nice face-detection feature into this camera. This feature allows the user to register people's faces in the camera so that those same faces receive priority in future photos. This is quite a nice feature, and one that I have not seen in other cameras.

This camera is capable of ISO 800, but quality starts to slip above ISO 400. Other features include a self-timer, white balance adjustment, microphone, and auto lock and focus.

The Casio Exilim S880 comes with the following accessories in the box:

    • Docking station
    • USB cable
    • AV cable
    • AC adapter
    • Strap
    • CD-ROM/ software
    • AC Power Cord
    • Reference material
