The Yukyung Viliv S7 and the Dell Inspiron 14 Laptops
(Page 1 of 4 )
In today’s reviews we will look at two laptops that are different in many ways. First, we'll check out the Yukyung Viliv S7 with its hybrid Netbook/tablet nature, and then the mainstream, mid-sized Dell Inspiron 14.
Yukyung Viliv S7

The Yukyung Viliv S7 is quite an interesting piece of equipment. It’s a hybrid combination of a Netbook and a tablet PC that will definitely appeal to some, although probably not to many. Extremely light in weight, and with some cool design features, the S7 is nice to have for occasional use as well as for its flexibility with its touch-screen and swiveling options. Its underwhelming performance, though, typical of many Netbook devices, as well as some design quirks, could make it frustrating for everyday use.
Another issue is its high price tag. Its base configuration starts at $699, which may be too high for some to spend on a “novelty” device, especially considering the fact that you can get other Netbooks at around half that price. The Viliv S7 comes with a standard one-year warranty. You can receive support by visiting the company’s website or by calling its toll-free number.
The S7 comes with a 1.2GHz Z515 processor in its base configuration. As expected, the S7 has a pretty sluggish performance like other Netbooks, but it should suffice for everyday tasks like checking your email and surfing the Internet. Just keep the multitasking to a minimum. You can also view video on the device, although some choppiness might become present.
The Viliv S7 also comes with 1 GB of DDR2 SDRAM and a 16 GB solid state drive, which can be upgraded to 32 GB. Battery life on the S7 is superb, with an estimated 9.5 hours of regular usage and an estimated seven hours worth of video playback. The excellent battery life makes the S7 an attractive choice for those who travel constantly and don’t want to worry about having to plug in their laptop.
Other features on the Yukyung Viliv S7 include integrated Wi-Fi to let you connect to available wireless networks on the go as well as Bluetooth. A premium version of the S7 also comes with 3G capabilities for Internet connectivity. For extra storage, you get an SD card slot. Like others in its class, the S7 comes with the Windows XP operating system. An integrated 1.3-megapixel camera is also included to let you keep in touch with friends. Of course, no DVD drive is present due to the small size of the S7.
