The Archos 5 Internet Tablet appears to be an attempt at snagging some of the market share held by popular multi-use devices such as the Zune HD and the iPod Touch. It boasts a number of qualities that make it stand out from the rest of that market. Keep reading for a closer look.
While the Archos 5 has many features in common with the Zune and the Touch, such as a touch-screen, audio and video playback, and more, it also attempts to add on value to separate it from the pack. Such is the case with its large 4.8-inch display, audio and video support for several non-standard formats and Google Android features.
It even tries to make a dent in the ever-popular app market. This is not the first such device from Archos, as a similar product was released last year, but lacking the Android functions as well as a few other features.
Although the Archos 5 does offer several options for entertainment and the like, the problem is that many of its features are not without glitches. If you are a gadget fiend and love to get your hands on do-it-all technical devices, you just may find it handy, though.
You can get it in its smallest 8 GB version for $249 and several other hard drive based versions, leading up to its biggest, the 500 GB Archos 5 for $499. While that much memory could seem like overkill, keep in mind that it is a media player; if you are a huge movie fanatic or audiophile, you will need all the storage you can get.
