Lenovo IdeaPad S12-2959 and the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge - ThinkPad Design

As far as the extra features go, the ThinkPad Edge comes with 802.11n Wi-Fi to let you connect to the fastest wireless networks possible. Bluetooth 2.1 is also included, so you can connect to other devices wirelessly.

An integrated webcam and microphone is available for video chatting. Unfortunately, there is no optical drive to allow you to watch DVDs or listen to CDs, even though it appears as if there is room for one.

Despite its aim to appease corporate users, the Edge does have a little style instituted into its design with its choice of either Midnight Black or Cherry Red color schemes. The colors look great, but the Edge's lid is so glossy that fingerprints will inevitably mar its surface. Silver edging adds some extra touch to the overall look of the laptop as well. The Edge lives up to its thin-and-light distinction, weighing only 3.7 pounds and measuring 12.7 inches wide by 9 inches deep by 1 inch thick.

Flipping the lid open reveals the Edge's 13.3-inch LED screen with 1,366x768 resolution that displays vibrant graphics. The keyboard is likely the laptop's highlight, as it features well-spaced with keys that are raised and conform to your fingers. The touch pad is large as well, and supports multi-touch gestures. The keyboard also contains the traditional trackpoint.

Finishing off the Edge's design is its connectivity. The right side of the laptop houses two USB ports, a headphone jack, and a media card reader. The left side houses a VGA port, a HDMI port, an Ethernet port, and an extra USB port.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Edge is a solid pick as a portable budget laptop for business users. The keyboard and touch pad are excellent, and its price is reasonable. The only disappointment is the lack of an optical drive, but if you can get past that, give the Edge a serious look.
