HP TouchSmart 300-1200 and HP Pavilion p6210y - HP TouchSmart Design

The all-in-one design of the HP TouchSmart 300-1200 is obviously its main selling point. The desktop can fit easily into almost any type of setting, whether it be a bedroom, home office, or even a kitchen as an entertainment piece, and it can become a handy helper when cooking thanks to its Recipe Box software.

The desktop as a whole measures 16.1 inches tall by 20.4 inches wide by 3 inches deep and weighs 24.3 pounds. If you don't want to have it sit on its kickstand, you can also mount it to a wall for better viewing and less clutter. Aesthetically, the TouchSmart 300-1200 is pretty standard fare, with a black finish covering most of its exterior with the exception of its silver-colored kickstand.

The 20-inch HD widescreen LCD display has a 1600x900 resolution and produces solid graphics for viewing multimedia or even performing common tasks. The display also has touch-screen capability that gives the desktop some added value and flexibility.

Although the touch-screen works well, its more of a novelty than a necessity, but surely many will appreciate it. In addition to its core, the desktop also comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse, keeping its clutter-free mantra intact.

Connectivity is standard for the most part on the TouchSmart 300-1200. The right side of the display holds two USB ports, while the left side holds the media card reader and microphone and headphone jacks. The final connectivity options reside on the back panel, and include an Ethernet port, three more USB ports, a TV input, digital and analog audio outputs, and an S-video port. Unfortunately, no HDMI port is included.

The appeal of the HP TouchSmart 300-1200 really depends on the consumer. It  serves its purpose as an all-inclusive computing device, but its price tag seems a bit inflated. This is especially true when you consider that you can get a regular desktop with better performance and a standard monitor for cheaper than the TouchSmart 300-1200. Then again, its "convenience" is what is supposed to make it stand out from the crowd, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
