HP Pavilion dv5-1004nr Laptop - Design

In terms of design, the HP Pavilion dv5-1004nr is a very attractive piece. It has a glossy black lid that flows nicely with its silver interior and chrome borders. It is too bad its performance is not quite up to par with its exquisite looks. You could almost say it is like a car with a Mercedes exterior and a Hyundai engine. Oh well.

The HP Pavilion dv5-1004nr does have a solid build, though, and it feels as if it can handle everyday wear and tear. Unlike many other laptops whose hinges become loose and seem as if they are going to break from opening the display, the hinge on the HP Pavilion dv5-1004nr is very sturdy and keeps the display firmly in place. This is, of course, provided that you handle the laptop with care and do not sling it around like a rag doll all the time.

The HP Pavilion dv5-1004nr weighs in at 6.4 pounds, which is a bit heavier than its competitors that boast the same size screen. This may be an issue if you are purchasing the laptop for a female or someone who does not want to lug around a heavier machine. Then again, it could provide for a little bit of extra exercise for the user too, which never hurt anyone.

The 15.4 inch wide screen display has a glossy finish and produces excellent contrast and color. Watching movies on the HP Pavilion dv5-1004nr is a joy; the display produces a resolution of 1,280x800. The glossy finish on the display can reflect light a bit and be a bit annoying while surfing the web, but it is only a slight distraction. The 15.4 inch display also features a 1.3 mega pixel web cam above it that is a nice touch for those who like to conduct video chats online.
