HP Pavilion Elite HPE-112y and the Dell Inspiron i580-5108NBC - Dell Features and Design

Other features of the Inspiron i580-5108NBC include a DVD drive that can be used for entertainment, whether it be watching DVDs or listening to CDs, as well as burning new ones. A Blu-ray drive would have been a nice luxury, but the regular DVD drive should suffice for most users.

You can connect to the fastest available networks with the desktop's 802.11n integrated Wi-Fi. If you need to transfer data from other digital devices, there is a multi-format media reader that supports various formats such as Memory Sticks, SD cards, and more.

Although the Inspiron i580-5108NBC is a retail configuration, specifically with regards to this review, it does offer some upgrade room if you need to. If the 1 TB hard drive is not enough storage, there is room to add an extra hard drive. There are also vacancies in the form of one standard PCI slot, a 1x PCI Express slot, and a 16x PCI Express slot.

The design of the i580-5108NBC is similar to that of many other mainstream desktops. You get the typical black exterior, with a glossy finish on the front panel and some chrome accents to spice it up a bit. Still, it should fit in nicely with any room or office.

The tower measures 14.8 inches tall by 17.4 inches deep by 6.9 inches wide and weighs 17.4 pounds. The components on the front panel are hidden by doors or flaps that open, and include the DVD drive, an expansion bay, the media card reader, two USB ports, and microphone and headphone jacks.

The rest of the connectivity resides on the back panel, and it is pretty decent. You get a HDMI port, a DVI port, a VGA port, an Ethernet port, four more USB ports, and various audio jacks. Unfortunately, there are no FireWire or eSATA ports available.

Overall, the Dell Inspiron i580- 5108NBC is a solid desktop for everyday use. The Core i5 processor provides solid performance, the feature set is complete, and its price is competitive. If you are a casual PC user and looking for an all-around performer, put the i580-5108NBC on your shopping list.
