Today we'll take a look at two mainstream fixed configuration desktops, the HP Pavilion Elite HPE-112y and the Dell Inspiron i580-5108NBC. While not the most expensive desktops on the market, these are not budget models either, and if you're looking for versatile, all-around performance, these computers deserve your attention.
HP Pavilion Elite HPE-112y
The HP Pavilion Elite HPE-112y is a mainstream desktop that you can find in retail stores in a fixed configuration. It comes with a Blu-ray drive, a full feature set, and competitive performance. Its only real down side is its price, which is a bit more than some competitors. The Elite HPE-112y costs $900, but you can find the refurbished model for cheaper. It also comes with a one-year warranty on parts and labor.
The Elite HPE-112y offers solid performance thanks to its 2.8 GHz AMD Phenom II X4 925 processor. This is a quad-core processor that allows you to run multiple applications at the same time without trouble. While the performance of the HPE-112y may not be as fast as some of its direct competitors, it is still good enough to warrant a recommendation. Common tasks like instant messaging, web browsing, multimedia, and more can all be done with ease. To help with its multitasking, the desktop comes with 8 GB of DDR3 SDRAM.
Other core components include a spacious 1 TB hard drive, which should be plenty of storage for most users. Graphics are supported by an ATI Radeon HD 4350 card that allows you to use the desktop for entertainment purposes like light gaming and watching videos, thanks to its discrete graphics. For the operating system, you get Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit pre-installed.
