Giga-Byte G-MAX TA4 Mini PC Review - What Comes in the TA4's Box?

When I first received the package, I was immediately struck by the small size of the box the system came in. I was even more surprised to find that the system was approximately one fourth the size of the box which housed it, heavily protected in its Styrofoam casing.

    TA4

Included in the package is the following:

    1. PC Case and system
    2. Specialized Heat Sink*
    3. External Power Supply Unit
    4. 24X Slim CD-ROM or DVD-Rom (Optional)
    5. PCMCIA Slot (Optional)
    6. 2.5-inch Slim Hard Drive (Optional)
    7. Power Cord
    8. Keyboard and Mouse (Optional)
    9. Flat Screen to CRT Adaptor
    10. System Assembly Manual
    11. Windows Driver CD
    12. Ribbon Cable
    13. Screws for the Slim Hard Drive and CR-ROM.

*The specialized heat sink is specifically for the purposes of this particular unit. Because of its slim size – about as thick as a PlayStation 2 – regular desktop processor heat sinks will not fit in this case.

    TA4 - What's Included

As you can see, a good chunk of the components listed are optional. At a base price of $137, there’s not much more you can really ask for, other than a quality motherboard and case. My media sample came with everything with a 30GB hard drive, DVD-ROM, PCMCIA Slot, and Pentilisted except the system manual, keyboard and mouse, ribbon cable, and screws. It did, however, come um 4 (2.8GHz) processor. Here are the system specifications according to the Giga-Byte TA4 specification page:

    FormFactor - Small Form Factor
Power - 120W adaptor with PFC
    Case Size - 64(D) x 213(W) x 234(H) mm
    K/B - PS/2 interface (optional)
    Mouse- USB interface (optional)
    CD/DVD/CDRW - 24X slim CD-ROM / 8X DVD / COMBO (optional)
    Motherboard - GA-8IGVT
    Chipset - Intel® 845GV / ICH4
    FSB - 533
    DRAM(MAX) - 2 x DDR333 DIMM (2.0GB)
    Video - Integrated
    PCI/ISA/AMR/CNR - 1/0/0/0
    USB - Front x2 / Rear x2 USB2.0
    CPU Supply - Intel® Pentium® 4 socket 478
    Sound Chip - AC97
    Codec - 6-channel
    Other function
    * Realtek LAN on board
    * Front USB 2.0 port, MIC IN and AUDIO OUT
    * Support DVI-I, SPDIF, TV-Out, IEEE 1394 port
    * Support DOM(Disk On Module) (optional)
    * Support PCMCIA Card Bus slot (optional)
