Desktops: Dell Studio XPS 435, Acer Aspire M5800-U5802A - Dell Studio Specs
(Page 2 of 4 )
The Dell Studio XPS 435 comes with a 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 920 processor and 8MB of L2 cache. It has 6GB of DDR3 SDRAM, which you can expand all the way up to 24GB. There is plenty of storage on the XPS 435, as it has two 1,000 GB hard drives at 7,200 RPM. Its integrated graphics come in the form of a nVidia GeForce GTX 260 1792 MB processor.
If that overall configuration does not suit your needs, there is plenty of room on the interior of the XPS 435 to perform upgrades. There are six RAM slots and three hard drive bays available, as well as a PCI card input, two 1x PCI Express slots, and a 4X PCI Express slot. Unfortunately, there is no room for a second graphics card, although most users would generally not need such space.
The exterior of the XPS 435 has plenty of connectivity options for you as well. One glaring omission is the absence of an HDMI slot. This is a shame, especially when you consider that the XPS 435 has a Blu-ray drive, so those who wish to hook up their PC to their HDTV will have to take a rain check. Nonetheless, you still get options such as eight USB 2.0 ports, FireWire, eSATA, digital audio outputs, analog audio outputs, headphone jacks, microphone jacks, and more. There is also a 15-in-1 card reader on board. As for the operating system, the XPS 435 comes with Windows Vista.
Performance-wise, the Dell Studio runs among the pack, although not completely at the front. Still, itís a good machine that can handle a wide variety of tasks, including media conversion, editing, and multitasking. It can handle most gaming needs properly, although the truly avid gamers may scoff at the inability to add a second graphics card. For that reason, it should be categorized as more of a do-it-all desktop rather than a gaming-specific desktop. The XPS 435 does tend to consume a lot of power when compared to other desktops in its class.
