Dell Studio 15 Laptop Review - Performance
(Page 4 of 4 )
In general performance, the Dell Studio 15 actually performs pretty close to the top of its class (its class being mainstream laptops). Of course, a lot of this depends on your customization options, but I am referring to the general $1,200 model. On a general performance score, the Studio 15 outperformed the MacBook Pro by 9%, a healthy margin. It also outperformed both its Inspiron and XPS brethren, both running on older technology. Realistically, you will not see a difference in any of these laptops for every day usage such as web browsing, e-mail, or word processing.

The Studio 15’s performance falls a little bit short when it comes to its top optional video card and gaming. Although it is capable of running the newest games on some setting, that setting generally will not be the highest, and the performance still will not be the best. If you plan to play a lot of games, then you may be better off going with a laptop which is a little more expensive and able to handle the graphic intensity a little bit better. One such laptop might be the MacBook Pro.
The PC Magazine battery test had the 6 cell battery lasting 3 hours and 20 minutes, while the video intensive CNet test had it at just under 3 hours. While neither of these scores is impressive, you are able to upgrade to a considerably better 9 cell battery for just $80 when you purchase the laptop. The PC Magazine reviewer estimates that the 9 cell battery should be able to get you into the 5 hour range without too much issue.
All in all, the performance offered by the Dell Studio 15 is pretty impressive, and combined with the slick design and full set of features, you really cannot go wrong with this laptop. The price is very competitive and is actually pretty low considering the kind of high quality features which you can get for very little money added on. If you have been looking into getting a medium to high range laptop, then now might be the time to get online and order your uniquely customized Dell Studio 15.
