Dell Studio 15 Laptop Review - Features

The Studio 15 comes with a nifty slot loading DVD player that can be upgraded to a Blu-ray player for an additional $200. The laptop also comes with a wide array of connections, including an HDMI port that will allow you to hook your laptop up to a larger display for watching your Blu-ray movies. Also included is a 4-in-1 media card reader that will please pretty much every user of digital cameras. Basically, the Studio 15 offers almost exactly what you would expect from a media machine: plenty of media connectivity.

Another cool feature is the 2 MP webcam. Although 2 mega pixels is a far cry from incredible quality, it is actually pretty good for a webcam. This little feature is  very useful and might be worth the upgrade for certain users, such as college students or mobile professionals. Another nice option on the laptop is mobile broadband and a cell modem, again good for the mobile professional.

The display on the Studio 15 is pretty standard for a modern 15.4” screen. Its native resolution is 1,440 pixels by 900 pixels, and it sports the newer LED backlight display technology. The reviewers atCNetclaim that the LED display offers numerous advantages over the older LCD technology, including brighter white levels and lower energy consumption. If you are looking to pinch pennies, you can opt for a lower-end display with a maximum resolution of 1280x800. You also have the option of really splurging and getting a powerful maximum resolution of 1920x1200.

Just as with the display, one nice feature of the Studio 15 is that it is highly customizable to your individual needs. You can get hard drive storage space up to 320 GB. There are low quality and high quality options offered for both the sound and video cards. Combine these available customizations with options for wireless connectivity, Bluetooth connectivity, operating system options, memory options up to 4 GB, and 6-cell or 9-cell battery options, and you will find yourself with an incredibly customizable laptop. As long as you are looking for a medium to high range laptop, you almost cannot go wrong with choosing the Studio 15 and customizing it to your specific needs.
