Dell Latitude E6400 Laptop - Features

The E6400 has a variety of wireless options. Mobile broadband subscribers can opt for either an EVDO/GPS card or an HSDPA/HSUPA/GPS card. The E6400 can also be configured with Bluetooth and UWB. The E6400 also comes with a FireWire port, four USB 2.0 ports, VGA, Display port, Ethernet port, eSATA, 5-in-1 memory card reader and either a PCMCIA slot or an ExpressCard 54 slot. An integrated webcam and microphone are optional. Dell’s E6400 is compatible with a variety of docking solutions including the E-Port, E-Port Plus, E-Legacy Extender, E-Flat Panel Stand, E-Monitor Stand, E-View Laptop Stand and E-Media Bay.

Dell’s new E6400 has one exceptionally cool feature that its competitors don’t have: an ambient backlit keyboard, which is a terrific addition that will prove to be incredibly useful in poorly lit areas like planes, conference rooms and hotel rooms. The E6400 also comes equipped with a number of other business-friendly features, such as a Trusted Platform Module chip, a contactless Smart Card reader (which simply requires that you tap your card on the wrist rest as opposed to sliding it into a slot) and a fingerprint reader, which is a $29 option. Many corporate IT departments would consider these features must-haves. Dell's custom ControlPoint software widget offers a clean, simple one-stop interface for accessing security, power and networking settings. Other business laptop makers such as Lenovo offer their own similar versions of catch-all administrative applications, but Dell’s version is exceptionally easy to use and very useful.

Dell has promised up to 19 hours of battery life if you combine a 9-cell battery with the optional 12-cell "battery slice,” which is essentially a giant battery that fits over the entire bottom of the system. The 9-cell battery alone has been reported to get about 4 and a half hours of use during video playback battery drain tests, which is above average. Dell's new emphasis on keeping your laptop going for as long as possible is sure to be good news for on-the-go workers. TheE6400is also highly configurable. Dell’s new machine gives you the option of choosing faster -- though more expensive -- parts. The E6400’s 2.53-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo is energy efficient and fast enough to tackle any workload.
