Features
The features included in the D630 are obviously targeted to the business audience. The user has the choice of either a Windows XP Professional operating system, or a Windows Vista Business operating system. The D630 comes equipped with the ultra-fast Core 2 Duo processor with 120 GB of hard drive space. The included graphics card is an nVidia Quadro NVS 135M card with an Intel GMA X3100 graphics accelerator.
The included optical drive is a DVD burner, which may be swapped out for other optical drives if desired. Wireless options in this notebook are nice with built-in 802.11g wireless capability, Dell wireless 360 Bluetooth 2.0, EV-Do wireless, and an internal 56k v924 modem. The EV-Do feature is a very useful tool for travelers, because it allows them to connect to the Internet no matter where they are in the world through an equipped cell phone. The D630 includes a nice Wi-Fi switch which, when turned on, will seek out any wireless Internet connection in the area. Turning this feature off, when not in use, helps to extend battery life.
Security is a priority in this Dell notebook, as it should be in any business notebook. This one comes equipped with both external and internal security features. External features include cable lock slots and hard drive locks. An optional fingerprint reader provides cutting edge security for the D630. Other security features include built-in smart card technology and hard drive/file encryption.
The bottom line is that the Dell D630 is a notebook built for speed and security. This laptop offers the best level of security that is currently available for laptop computers. For the business traveler, this notebook is an ideal choice because of the durability and reliability. The D630 has a great set of features for the price, although it may not be quite as fast as the Lenovo T61. The Santa Rosa processor and 120 GB of RAM handle multi-task jobs sufficiently, which is what the typical business person is looking for.
