Dell Inspiron i545s-1476N and Sony Vaio L117FX

Desktops have evolved over the years; today, you can buy them with exactly the specs you need to suit your purposes, or customize them to fit the way you use your computer. If your needs lean more towards casual entertainment than business, the Dell Inspiron i545s-1476N and the Sony Vaio L117FX may be worth a look.

The Dell Inspiron i545s-1476N is a retail configuration from the manufacturer that is mostly suited for casual users. It has a common, yet good design and decent overall performance. It also has room for expansion and upgrades for the do-it-yourself types out there.

You can pick up this retail Dell desktop for around $479.99. It comes with a standard one-year warranty on parts and labor. You can find support online through Dell's website or by calling its 24/7 support line.

The Inspiron i545s-1476N comes with a 2.6 GHz Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5300 processor and 4 GB of DDR2 SDRAM. While it is not a powerhouse, it does provide you with enough processing power to handle simple multitasking and tasks such as surfing the web and some multimedia. You get plenty of storage space with a 640 GB hard drive.

For graphics, there is an Intel GMA 3100 integrated graphics chip on board. Windows 7 Premium 64-bit is the operating system that comes installed. Other notable features include a DVD burner and a 19-in-1 card reader that supports a bevy of memory cards such as a microSD card, a Memory Stick Pro, and a xD Picture Card, to name a few.
