Asus UX50V-RX05 and Sony Vaio VGN-NW125J/T Laptops - Connectivity and Design
(Page 2 of 4 )
The Asus UX50V-RX05 has plenty of connectivity options such as HDMI, VGA, two USB 2.0 ports, a 9-in-1 media reader, ExpressCard/54, headphone and microphone jacks, and Ethernet and Wi-Fi. There is an integrated 1.3-megapixel webcam and microphone that uses facial recognition software to allow you to log into your laptop without having to type a password. The facial recognition has a few quirks here and there, but it is a feature you can at least brag about to your friends.
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition 64-bit operating system comes installed on the UX50V-RX05. Regarding software, all you get is Microsoft Works, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and a 60-day trial version of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 Edition.

Aesthetically speaking, the Asus UX50V-RX05 is a sexy machine. Its exterior is black and very shiny, so expect to get a lot of fingerprints on it. Luckily Asus supplies you with a cloth for this problem. The UX50V-RX05 weighs 5.7 pounds and measures 15.2 inches wide by 10.1 inches deep by 1.3 inches thick when closed. It is quite thin for its overall size, which adds to its pleasing appearance.
The laptop's 15.6-inch display with 1,366x768 resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio is great for watching movies. While very glossy, the screen has no problems with glare, and as an added touch, has its glass extend to the edges of the laptop for an even better look.
The backlit keyboard on the UX50V-RX05 is quite roomy and even has a separate number pad. One could complain that the keys are too glossy, as is also the case with the touch pad. This might be a valid gripe, especially if you have sweaty hands.
The Asus UX50V-RX05 is a good laptop to have if you are an avid DVD watcher or like to play games occasionally. However, with its relatively high price and low performance, you may want to shop around a bit.
