Today we'll be looking at two laptops from Asus in the $650 to $750 range: the Asus U50F-RBBAG05 and the Asus UL50VT-RBBBK05. Both offer reasonably solid performance, but focus on different areas to excel. Which one you choose will depend on what you consider most important (i.e. battery life, lots of different features, etc.).
The Asus U50F-RBBAG05 is a 15.6-inch laptop that you can find in retail stores at a fixed configuration. It combines a comprehensive set of features with good performance. The U50F-RBBAG05 is available for $649 and it comes with a one year warranty on parts and labor.
The U50F-RBBAG05 is powered by a 2.13 GHz Intel Core i3-330M processor with 3 MB of L2 cache. This particular processor is part of a new lineup of processors recently released by Intel that offers excellent performance, especially when you consider that it comes loaded in a budget laptop. The multiple cores of the processor allow you to engage in multiple tasks at once without much of a slowdown.
For added multitasking help you get 4 GB of DDR3 SDRAM. You can pretty much count on the U50F-RBBAG05 for all of your basic computing needs. Tasks such as Internet browsing, instant messaging, document editing, and multimedia viewing can be done without problems. You can even partake of some casual video gaming if you like. For graphics, you get an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD HM55 card.
There is plenty of storage space thanks to the 500 GB hard drive. Battery life on the U50F-RBBAG05 is decent among the competition, as its included six-cell battery provides you with around 4.5 hours of usage when fully charged. Some of that decent battery life can be attributed to the Core i3 processor that uses improved power management technology. For the operating system, Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit comes pre-installed.
