Asus K60I-RBBBR05 and the Toshiba Satellite L505-ES5018 - Toshiba Design

The design of the Satellite L505-ES5018 is attractive thanks to the Fusion finish that coats its graphite colored lid, which contrasts with its silver interior. The laptop is not too hard to carry around, as it weighs 6 pounds and measures 15.1 inches wide by 10.2 inches deep by 1.6 inches thick. It also feels solidly built and should handle travel well.

The 15.6-inch display has a resolution of 1,366x768 and offers the good graphics and clarity one would desire when watching movies. Although its finish is glossy, the display does not have too many glare issues. The integrated speakers offer decent sound, but movie viewers would be best served to use headphones at times.

The L505-ES5018's keyboard is quite large and features a separate number pad that is a nice added touch. The keys are easy to type with and responsive. The touch pad is large as well, and responsive to gestures.

The connectivity options are decent, although you don't get the luxury of the HDMI port found on more expensive laptops. The right side of the laptop holds the DVD drive and two USB ports. The left side has another USB port that doubles as an eSATA port, a VGA port, an Ethernet port, and microphone and headphone jacks. The media card reader resides on the front.

Considering its affordable price, one would be hard pressed to complain about the Toshiba Satellite L505-ES5018. The design is attractive, the feature set is complete, and the performance is satisfactory. If you have a little more cash in your budget you might opt for a better performer, but budget shoppers should give the L505-ES5018 a strong look.
