Asus G51J-3D Laptop and the Asus Eee PC 1005PE Netbook - Asus Eee PC 1005PE Features and Design

A few extra features come with the Asus Eee PC 1005PE. Integrated 802.11n Wi-Fi is on board so you can connect to the fastest available wireless networks. A built-in webcam and microphone is also included so you can video chat with friends.

The design of the 1005PE stresses portability. You can tote it anywhere, as it weighs only 2.8 pounds and measures just 10.3 inches wide by 7 inches deep by 1.4 inches thick. Its exterior is covered by a varying mixture of glossy black and dark blue.

The 10.1-inch TFT active matrix display has a 1,024x600 resolution, which is a disappointment, as other competing netbooks have displays with higher, more crisp resolutions. Still, the smallish display should suffice for common tasks.

The 1005PE's keyboard is pretty good for a netbook. The keys are spaced well and are of the chiclet variety that is easy to type with.

The touch pad is a bit on the smallish side, and is not one of the best you will find on a netbook. Connectivity is pretty basic. On the right side you will find an Ethernet port, two USB ports, a media card reader, and microphone and headphone jacks. The left side holds a VGA port and an extra USB port.

The Asus Eee PC 1005PE is both hit and miss as a netbook. While it does have the newer generation Intel N450 processor, the performance upgrade is negligible. Also, more RAM and a higher resolution display would have been nice additions to fluff up its value. However, the 1005PE does have excellent battery life that could make it a good pick for those who travel a lot and really value portability.
