Asus Eee PC Seashell 1201N and the Acer Ferrari One FO200-1799

Today we'll take a close look at two netbooks, the Asus Eee PC Seashell 1201N and the Acer Ferrari One FO200-1799. Both offer very good performance in their class, along with a few surprises.

Asus Eee PC Seashell 1201N netbook

Small enough to be called a netbook, but slightly bigger than most, the 12.1-inch Asus Eee PC Seashell 1201N brings above average performance and a nice feature set to the table. Even better is its competitive price, which falls around $500 or lower, depending on where you shop. The 1201N is accompanied by a one-year warranty on parts and labor, as well as technical support available via Asus' website or a 24-7 toll-free line.

The 1201N comes with a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N330 processor. This is a dual-core processor that is a pleasant surprise to find in a netbook, as many have less powerful single-core processors. In fact, the N330 is usually finds its home in certain desktop computers. What the dual-core processor gives you is better performance when it comes to multitasking and having several programs open at the same time. The Atom N330 does not perform as fast as a Core 2 Duo processor you might find in a more expensive thin-and-light laptop, but it still gets the job done.

The 1201N also comes with 2 GB of DDR2 SDRAM, which is a nice step up from the 1 GB of RAM found in some other netbooks. Overall, you can expect to use the 1201N to perform your everyday computing tasks like Internet browsing, instant messaging, photo viewing, movie watching, and the like. Thanks to its Nvidia Ion graphics processor, you can also enjoy video gaming on the 1201N in addition to HD video playback.

A good amount of storage for all of your important data is available with the system's 250 GB hard drive. Battery life is where this particular netbook disappoints a bit, however, as its six-cell battery only provides around five hours of usage when fully charged. This falls below the battery life offered by some of its competitors. For the operating system, you get Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed.
