Acer Aspire 5043 WLMI Series Laptop - Networking and Display

The wireless adaptor provides the laptop with the ability to connect into the most commonly found wireless networks. Nearly all available wireless networks are based on either the wireless b standard or wireless g and full compatibility is found in this hardware package. The only limitation to this particular wireless adaptor is its lack of future-thinking support for the up and coming wireless "N." While this standard has been available for a number of months it is currently not being adopted to any degree as a worthwhile replacement over existing wireless networks. However, as wireless routers and devices fail and need to be replaced, they likely will be by wireless "N" devices as they become more affordable.

The modem is a mostly wasted presence on the majority of desktops being produced, with the exception of those that are intended for areas lacking high speed Internet support. However, with the mobility factor of a laptop it can often travel between areas with and without high speed support.

The gigabit Ethernet support, on the other hand, is a noteworthy component of the laptop. On wired networks the gigabit support allows the Ethernet adaptor to provide 10/100/1000 mbps transmission speeds. On most wired networks this additional speed is not possible, but if the network is wired with CAT5E or CAT6 cabling and incorporates one of the few manufactured gigabit routers, you will be able to witness these amazing speeds across a standard network. The presence of this upgraded network adaptor is a surprising feature considering the lack of wireless "N" forethought.

The 15.4" widescreen display features Acer's Crystalbrite technology. This unique technology allows for 30 percent more image viewing efficiency, delivering brighter, vivid, and more contrast-containing images for DVD playback and image intensive applications. The presence of the Acer GridVista technology allows for multi-window viewing on dual independent displays.
