ASUS L5GA Notebook Review - System Performance Benchmarks Continued

    3DMark2001

While it is a video subsystem benchmark it is strongly affected by the overall system.  It utilizes DirectX 8.1.

    asus

Now we start to see the L5GA start to kick some butt.  Even configured in a way that cripples the CPU, memory, and hard drive performance, the power of the Mobility RADEON 9600 Pro comes through.

    3DMark2003

3DMark2003 focuses more on video card performance than its predecessor 3DMark2001 that shows greater effects of system performance in an attempt to estimate DirectX 9.0a support.

    asus

Because of 3DMark2003's emphasis on video card performance we see the L5GA absolutely crush the P4R800-V's 9100IGP.  It does still trail the RADEON 9700 Pro, but that is to be expected.

    GL Excess

GL Excess is an OpenGL synthetic benchmark.

    asus

The L5GA's RADEON 9600 Pro again makes a strong performance.  It's good to verify the system's OpenGL performance since the Mobility RADEON 9600 Pro is slightly different than the AGP version of the RADEON 9600 Pro.

    Aquamark v3.0

This third version of Aquamark is a very taxing benchmark utilizing DirectX 7, 8, and 9 functionality and is the krass game engine used for Aquanox 2.  The score represents frames per second times 1000.

    asus

The L5GA more than doubles the performance of the P4R800-V's integrated video solution.  Very impressive.

    Novalogics's Commanche4

A DirectX8 benchmark based on the full retail game of the same name.  That has shown to be a CPU limited game.

    asus

WOW!  Even with the poorer performance the L5GA showed in both SiSoft Sandra 2004 and PCMark2002 it made a great showing here.  The L5GA again bested the P4R800-V system and was less than 6 frames per second behind the IC7-MAX3 with a 9700 Pro.

    X2: Rolling Demo

Another DirectX 8.0 benchmark but more recent than Commanche4.

    asus

The L5GA, again, nearly doubles the P4R800-V system.

    Quake III Team Arena

Quake III was a huge success in its time and is still widely played.  The game is based on OpenGL and has built in benchmarking functionality.

    asus

Taking its customary position, centered between the P4R800-V and the IC7-MAX3, the L5GA shows that is more than capable of getting its frag on.

    Unreal Tournament 2003

Yes, the newer version UT2004 has been out for awhile but I still use UT2003 since Epic forgot to include a benchmarking utility in UT2004.  UT2003 is based on DirectX 8.1 and is very taxing on all system parts.

    asus

    asus

If you read my last review on the P4R800-V, I included a lot more UT2003 benchmarks using Low Quality settings because of the 9100IGP's somewhat limited capabilities.  However, the Mobility RADEON 9600 Pro has more than enough power to run with the High Quality settings as the graphs above show.
