Windows XP Professional x64 Edition from a Hardware Perspective - 64 vs 32

I have seen numerous people request a 32-bit vs. 64-bit benchmark, so here it is. It’s pretty simple; there will be 2 partitions, one for the XP 64-bit and one for XP 32-bit. The same tests will be run on both operating systems. The test computer specifications are:

    • AMD Athlon 64 3000+
    • 2 x 512MB OCZ VX
    • DFI NF4 Ultra-D
    • X300SE
    • OCZ PowerStream 520 watt

I will run a comparision of 32-bit applications on XP and XP x64, then move to some applications that have been recomplied for XP x64 and compare that with the XP and 32-bit version.

    32-bit Applications

The results show that there is little gain in switching to 64-bit for 32-bit applications. What ever gains are within the limits of error for the tests. Of course, remember that these are 32-bit applications in a 64-bit OS.
