Celeron D: the Little Processor that Could - PCMark04, LAME
(Page 3 of 5 )
This is very similar to Futuremark’s 3Dmark tests, but instead of testing the gaming performance, it tests overall computer performance. It runs the computer through 10 different tests. Instead of gaming scenes, it tests performance with more practical applications, such as encrypting, audio encoding, and Web page rendering. Many people that are interested in Celeron processors use the computer for general, easy work.
There’s a 12 percent difference between stock speeds. Generally anything over 10 percent will show a noticeable increase in the computer. Once we overclock the Celeron, it takes over the lead.
LAME
The next battle was audio encoding. I used the LAME encoder with Razor LAME GUI. I used Yellow Card’s Ocean Avenue CD, and ripped each song. The results are below.
The stock scores were just seven seconds apart. This test appears to put the Celeron D in nearly the same boat as the Pentium 4. Once overclocked, the Celeron D passed the Pentium 4.
