Celeron D: the Little Processor that Could - Benching
(Page 2 of 5 )

It's time to run through some tests to see if the price tag on the Pentium 4 holds up against the cheap Celeron D. The test will be run with the following specs:
- Abit AI7
- Intel Pentium 4 2.6c
- Intel Celeron D 2.4
- 2 Kingston HyperX 512 MB PC3200
- BFG 6800 OC
- Super Flower PSU
- Samsung 80GB SATA hard drive
Finding a fair way to test the two processors is hard. I decided to run the Pentium 4 at stock and run the Celeron at stock. This means that the FSBs will be different, which could alter the outcome. I made another run with the Celeron D at a 200 MHz FSB.
This means the Celeron was clocked up to 3.6. Not all Celeron Ds are able to run that high, but with decent cooling many should be stable at this speed. This wasn’t the end of mine, but I am running a water-cooled system, and was able to break the 4 GHz barrier; the motherboard started to give out after that.
Another aspect to consider is the memory timings and speed. Anything much over the 200 MHz timings of 2-2-2-5 becomes sketchy, and another divider other than 1:1 would have to be used. Luckily I was able to run all tests at 1:1 with latency of 2-2-2-5.
