In gaming, the A64 holds a slight advantage over its smaller sibling. The difference isn't huge, but it is there. Newer games such as Doom3 might show a larger gap, but testing that with my R8500 would be a rather pointless exercise.

Data compression is something done on a regular basis in both home and business environments in order to create backups and keep work organized, secure, and transportable. For this test, we archived an 82 MB photo collection to a .rar folder, and timed how long it took. Again, the Sempron took a large beating. If you do your backing up during your away time from the computer, this isn't a deal breaker. But for impatient folks, those extra seconds at the end of the day might be the difference between leaving work early, and getting asked by the boss to come in on Saturday, and maybe Sunday, too.
